Speculation: Bloodborne Remake on Hold for Now
The Closure of Bluepoint Games and the Unmade Bloodborne Remake for PS5
The recent closure of Bluepoint Games has once again sparked speculation among fans about why the studio was never assigned the task of remaking Bloodborne for the PlayStation 5. Despite fans’ desires and the studio’s apparent suitability for the project, the remake never materialized.
According to Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, Bluepoint did propose a remake of Bloodborne in 2025. However, sources familiar with the process revealed that FromSoftware, the original developer, declined the idea despite the potential financial viability.
A statement from former PlayStation Boss Shuhei Yoshida last year seemed to support this claim. He mentioned that FromSoftware’s president, Hidetaka Miyazaki, expressed interest in expanding the Bloodborne universe, possibly through a remake. However, Miyazaki, being occupied with other commitments, preferred to keep the project within the company and not involve external studios.
While Sony owns the rights to Bloodborne and could proceed with a remake without FromSoftware’s approval, they opted to prioritize the existing relationship with FromSoftware. The success of FromSoftware’s latest title, Elden Ring, and their upcoming exclusive game, The Duskbloods, for the Switch 2 platform, likely influenced Sony’s decision to maintain a positive partnership for potential future collaborations.
Despite the lack of a remake, Bloodborne continues to perform well in sales, with nearly 2 million units sold between February 2022 and November 2025, a decade after its initial release.
Prior to the closure, Bluepoint Games was reportedly working on a live service game set in the God of War universe. The project involved Atreus navigating the Underworld and engaging in intense battles. Unfortunately, this endeavor, along with a similar project at Sony Bend, was canceled in January 2025. Details regarding the canceled Sony Bend project remain undisclosed.
Currently, players can enjoy Sony’s live service games like Marathon and Horizon Hunters Gathering, which managed to avoid cancellation. Additionally, the development of Fairgame$, an extraction shooter game that may compete with Marathon, is in progress.
