Proton Mail's redesigned mobile app is built for speed

New Proton Mail Apps for Android and iOS

If you’re a Proton Mail user on your mobile device, get ready for some exciting news. Proton Mail is launching brand new apps for both Android and iOS platforms. These updated mobile applications have been completely rebuilt to provide users with a cleaner, faster, and more private email experience. The company first announced this revamp back in April, and now it’s finally here.

The enhanced Proton Mail apps promise to deliver a much-improved user experience. According to the company, users can now scroll, archive, and reply to emails twice as fast as before. Additionally, the new apps feature an offline mode, allowing users to access and manage their emails even without an internet connection. The interface has also been redesigned for easier navigation, with important features like the composer button now more accessible.

One of the most significant changes is that the iOS and Android apps now share a common codebase, with 80 percent of their code being the same. This shared codebase will enable faster development and ensure that future updates can be rolled out simultaneously on both platforms.

The driving force behind these improvements, according to Proton’s Product lead Anant Vijay Singh, is the feedback from the Proton community and the company’s business model. Singh emphasized that building an email app without the need to monetize user data has allowed Proton to create a faster, cleaner, and more private email experience for its users.

Proton Mail has been busy with other projects as well. The company is currently working on revamping Proton Calendar with similar user experience enhancements. Additionally, they have recently entered the chatbot market with Lumo, an AI assistant that focuses on ethical practices.
