Toyota Recalls 400,000 Trucks and SUVs Due to Software Bug

Toyota, known for its reliability, is facing challenges with two new recalls affecting approximately 400,000 Toyota trucks and SUVs. The automaker announced these recalls last Wednesday.

Toyota Tundra and Sequoia Models Affected

The recalls impact over 394,000 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia models manufactured between 2022 and 2025. The issue stems from a software bug in the 14-inch infotainment system, causing the screen to display as half green, fully green, or eventually completely black.

This glitch can affect the backup camera’s display, potentially leading to collisions and injuries. Toyota dealers are offering free updates to the display software to address this issue.

Recall for Tacoma 4WD Trucks

Another recall involves around 6,000 Tacoma 4WD trucks produced in 2025. These trucks may have front driveshaft joints made from improper materials, which could cause deformation or breakage, affecting the driver’s ability to steer the vehicle.

In the case of a 4WD vehicle, this failure could result in the truck rolling away if the electronic parking brake is disengaged.

Next Steps for Affected Owners

Toyota plans to notify affected owners by late November. Owners are advised to bring their vehicles to the nearest dealership for inspection of the serial number on the driveshaft assemblies. If necessary, these assemblies will be replaced free of charge.
