Amazon AI leader joins Google Cloud; Meta taps new chief legal officer from Microsoft – GeekWire

— Karthik Ramakrishnan, previously with Amazon for 14 years contributing to their AI strategy, has now joined Google Cloud as a Vice President in the Data Cloud division.

Ramakrishnan expressed his excitement about working with the team at Google Cloud to build the autonomous data platform of the future in what he calls the ‘Agentic Era’.

During his tenure at Amazon, Karthik Ramakrishnan played a key role in the launch of Amazon Alexa and the development of Amazon Nova foundation models, focusing on conversational AI and multi-modal AGI.

His transition to Google comes at a time of restructuring within Amazon’s AI unit following the departure of Rohit Prasad, the executive in charge of Amazon’s AI initiatives and the creation of their Nova AI models.

Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy recently appointed Peter DeSantis to lead a new organization merging the Nova and model research teams with custom silicon and quantum computing, aiming to advance the company’s AI capabilities.

Amazon unveiled its Nova 2 models at the re:Invent conference, aiming to compete with AI leaders such as OpenAI and Google in the development of advanced AI systems.

— C.J. Mahoney, previously a corporate vice president and legal executive at Microsoft, has joined Meta as its new chief legal officer, as reported by Axios.

Mahoney’s previous roles at Microsoft included deputy general counsel focusing on international trade and Azure, as well as corporate vice president and general counsel for product, services, and go-to-market legal.

Prior to his time at Microsoft, Mahoney served as a deputy U.S. trade representative during President Trump’s first term from 2018 to 2020.

He takes over the chief legal officer position at Meta from Jennifer Newstead, who moved to Apple as the general counsel.

Microsoft recently promoted Jonathan Palmer to chief legal officer following the departure of Hossein Nowbar, who is now with ServiceNow as president and chief legal officer.
