Amazon customers have reported unexpected delivery delays after the Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage on Monday, indicating a more significant impact on the company’s operations than previously thought.

Users on Reddit and X forums shared instances where their Amazon orders scheduled for Monday did not arrive as expected.

  • “I received a delay email on everything due today. Coming tomorrow and I’m fine with that.”
  • “I have 4 items that are supposed to be delivered today as well and they haven’t even left the facility. So I’m sure it’s the outage.”
  • “My Amazon Fresh order was cancelled at 5:15 PM.”

Reports from Amazon workers on the “r/AmazonFC” Reddit community mentioned downtime at fulfillment centers, affecting operations.

  • “Today was the first day I’ve experienced an entire day of downtime, and not as a shutdown for maintenance. Very odd feeling to maintain a constant state of readiness for 10 hours in case the system comes back at any moment.”

Amazon’s package fulfillment systems rely heavily on AWS infrastructure, making disruptions in AWS services directly impact its retail and logistics network.

According to Capital One, Amazon’s logistics arm processes about 17.2 million delivery orders daily.

The repercussions of delayed deliveries may lead to increased costs from potential refund obligations and additional labor requirements.

The AWS outage, attributed to a DNS resolution issue with DynamoDB service in the US-EAST-1 region, affected several major websites and services.

Despite the outage, Amazon’s stock showed resilience with an upward trend on Monday and early Tuesday trading.

We reached out to Amazon for further details on the delayed deliveries and the impact of the AWS outage on their operations.
