The Depths of Delay: The Sinking City 2’s Journey to 2026 amidst Ukraine’s Turmoil
Frogwares Delays Release of The Sinking City 2 Amid War Between Russia and Ukraine
Due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Frogwares, the developers of the Lovecraftian survival horror game The Sinking City 2, have announced a delay in its release to the first half of 2026. The studio cited the challenges of developing a game amidst the conflict as the reason for the extended timeline. While no specific new release date has been set, Frogwares has shared some work-in-progress screenshots to keep fans updated on the game’s development progress.
The delay was explained by Frogwares publishing head, Sergiy Oganesyan, who highlighted the difficulties faced by the team during the development process. He mentioned power outages caused by drones and missiles hitting the power grid, as well as the constant threat of drone swarms disrupting their work and daily lives. These unforeseen obstacles significantly slowed down the development of the game, making it impractical to rush the remaining tasks to meet an earlier deadline.
Despite the uncertainties brought by the war, Frogwares aims to release The Sinking City 2 in the first half of 2026, emphasizing the importance of taking the necessary time to ensure a quality end product. The studio plans to showcase more gameplay footage in the coming months to keep fans engaged and informed about the game’s progress.
With the extra time afforded by the delay, Frogwares plans to ensure a smooth transition from detective-style action to full survival horror in The Sinking City 2. This shift presents a new set of challenges for the team, but they are determined to deliver a compelling gaming experience for players.
Reflecting on the original Sinking City, our reviewer had mixed feelings about the game’s execution, particularly praising its atmospheric setting but expressing confusion about its overall impact. The transition to a more intense survival horror genre in the sequel adds a layer of complexity that the developers are working hard to perfect.
Without the weird Lovecraftian bits, this is a slightly janky, slightly grindy detective game that does some interesting things in a very atmospheric depiction of a profoundly depressed town. Taking them into account, I don’t know! I was confused and uncharmed by the whole thing, but I still haven’t untangled my brainnoodles. At least I’ve told you how they got tangled. Goodness, I was very interested in The Sinking City. I really wanted to love it. But I’m afraid rain may have stopped play this time.
In the face of challenging circumstances, Frogwares’ developers continue to work tirelessly to bring The Sinking City 2 to fruition. Their dedication and perseverance in the midst of adversity are commendable, and fans can look forward to experiencing the game in the first half of 2026.
