Ubisoft’s Recent Decisions and the Release of Tom Clancy’s The Division – Definitive Edition

Ubisoft has been making significant changes recently, with game cancellations and studio closures, but it seems that these decisions have not had a positive impact on their share price, which has dropped by over 95% in the past decade.

Despite these challenges, Ubisoft has announced a new release during a Twitch stream that went largely unnoticed. Tom Clancy’s The Division – Definitive Edition is now available for download on the Xbox Store and PlayStation Store, offering every DLC for the ten-year-old game at a discounted price of $49.99/£44.99.

This marks the first release of The Division game on PS4/XB1, an online-only multiplayer game with a player count of approximately 700 on Steam at the time of writing. The base game has been recently on sale for $4.49 and lacks cross-play functionality. However, PS5 players received a 60fps mode update in December.

Although a trailer for the Definitive Edition is unavailable, the game promises to provide players with the complete The Division experience, including the base game, all three Season Pass expansions, cosmetic packs, gear sets, weapon skins, and customization options.

Back in 2016, The Division received a score of 8/10 for its solid cover-based shooting mechanics, loot-heavy RPG elements, and immersive setting. The cooperative gameplay aspect was particularly praised, allowing players to team up with friends to tackle enemies in the challenging Dark Zone.

Unfortunately, the third installment in the series, The Division Heartland, was cancelled by Ubisoft last year. The company has shifted its focus to XDefiant and Rainbow Six, with XDefiant being shut down eight months later.
