According to the report, DOGE staffers made the decision to transfer a live copy of Americans’ personal information to a cloud server, disregarding internal risk assessments from the Social Security Administration (SSA) that identified the potential impact as catastrophic without proper safeguards. This information, classified as “production data,” could potentially be directly manipulated by DOGE.

Security Threats and Data Breaches

In addition to Social Security numbers, the database reportedly contains details such as Americans’ place and date of birth, work permit status, and parents’ names. The report highlights a range of potential security threats, including data breaches by foreign adversaries like Russia, China, and Iran, as well as risks posed by DOGE staffers themselves, such as Edward “Big Balls” Coristine, who reportedly had unfettered access to sensitive information.

Senate Committee Findings

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs released the report, expressing concerns about DOGE’s activities at the General Services Administration and the Office of Personnel Management.

Secrecy and Oversight Challenges

The report also sheds light on the challenges faced by SSA officials in monitoring DOGE’s work, noting the high level of secrecy maintained by DOGE. Whistleblower interviews revealed a work environment with armed guards controlling access and rooms that were locked and covered with makeshift materials. The report described workspaces with stacks of laptops and offices converted into private bedrooms, including one furnished with a queen bed, wardrobe, and big-screen TV.
