The Future Unfolds: A Comprehensive Review of the Motorola Razr Fold
In January 2026, Motorola made waves in the tech world by unveiling two new smartphones – the Motorola Signature and the Motorola Razr Fold. While the Signature is already available, details about the Razr Fold were kept under wraps until now.
Having recently reviewed the Motorola Signature, it’s clear that Motorola is aiming to set a new standard of luxury with their new phones. The Razr Fold seems to follow suit, boasting specifications that are surprisingly similar.
During MWC 2026, I had the opportunity to get my hands on the new Motorola Razr Fold, which is part of a new wave of devices challenging the dominance of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 in 2026.

Transitioning from Flip to Fold
Motorola was an early player in the folding phone market, reviving the Razr brand in 2020 with a nod to the iconic Razr V3 from 2004. While Samsung has released multiple generations of the Flip and Fold, Motorola is now making the leap to larger foldable devices.
With Apple set to launch its own folding phone in 2026 and Honor introducing the Magic V6 at MWC 2026, there’s a growing interest in this category of smartphones. The competition is heating up, but the question remains – can Motorola keep pace?
Key Specifications of the Razr Fold
The Motorola Razr Fold features a book-style folding design with a 6.6-inch external display and an 8.1-inch internal display. The external display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, providing enhanced durability and scratch resistance. Additionally, the folding display is covered with ultra-thin glass.
Both displays are LTPO pOLED panels, with the main display offering a resolution of 2848 x 2232 pixels and the external display at 2520 x 1080. The main display supports a 120Hz refresh rate, while the external display can go up to 165Hz.
With peak brightness levels of 6200 nits on the folding screen and 6000 nits on the external display, the Razr Fold offers exceptional brightness levels, ideal for HDR content viewing.
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, the Razr Fold shares the same hardware as Motorola’s flagship 2026 phone. The camera setup on the rear of the phone is also identical to the Motorola Signature.
Starting with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, the Razr Fold justifies its £1,799.99 price tag with high-end specifications, matching the Galaxy Z Fold 7 but offering double the storage capacity.

With a larger 6000mAh battery, the Razr Fold outshines the 4400mAh battery of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Additionally, the device supports 80W wired charging, surpassing the capabilities of its competitors. However, it’s worth noting that the Honor Magic V6 boasts a 7150mAh battery with 120W charging.
Camera Features of the Razr Fold
Folding phones often struggle with camera performance, but Motorola seems to have addressed this issue with the Razr Fold. The camera setup closely resembles that of the Motorola Signature, offering a 50Mp main camera with f/1.6 aperture for 8K video recording with Dolby Vision support. Additionally, there’s a 50Mp telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom, as well as a 50Mp ultrawide camera.
Motorola proudly claims that the Razr Fold has received a DXOMark Gold rating with a score of 164, positioning it as having the best camera on a folding phone. A comprehensive review will provide more insights into the camera’s performance.

The Razr Fold also features two front cameras, catering to both displays with 20Mp and 32Mp options.
While I didn’t have the chance for an extensive camera test, the overall camera performance is expected to be excellent based on my experience with the Motorola Signature. The AI-powered features enhance image quality, especially with zoom shots, although the use of generative AI for longer zooms may be noticeable to some users.
Distinctive Motorola Design
When looking at the design of the Moto Razr Fold, it’s reminiscent of Motorola’s other phones from 2025 and 2026. The brand’s signature aesthetic is evident, with the Pantone Blackened Blue and Pantone Lily White color options offering a sleek and classic look.
Measuring 9.89mm when folded and 4.55mm when unfolded, the Razr Fold is slightly thicker than its competitors. Weighing in at 243g, it’s also a bit heavier. The device carries an IP49 rating, providing some level of dust protection, although not as robust as other folding phones on the market.
While personal preferences play a role in design appeal, some may find the Razr Fold’s aesthetics less sophisticated compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, the device’s hinge feels sturdy, the display crease is minimal, and a titanium plate behind the fold ensures screen durability. Overall, the design is solid and will appeal to fans of Motorola phones.

The Moto Razr Fold supports Motorola’s Pen Ultra and offers 7 years of software updates, along with a suite of AI features. While I didn’t have the chance for an in-depth software test, the device appeared to have fewer preinstalled apps compared to other Motorola models. Whether this is specific to demo units remains to be seen. With its high specifications, the Razr Fold is positioned to compete with the likes of Samsung, Honor, and Google, providing consumers with a compelling alternative.
The Motorola Razr Fold will be available for pre-order on 13 April in the UK, priced at £1,799.99 or €1,999.99 in Europe.
