Apple TV’s highly-anticipated thriller series, “The Hunt,” faced a significant delay due to plagiarism allegations but is now available for streaming after its premiere on Wednesday. The series was initially announced by Apple in September 2025, with a scheduled debut on December 3. However, in late November, it was suddenly pulled from the service without explanation.

It was later revealed that the series was halted because of claims that director, creator, and screenwriter Cédric Anger had plagiarized the plot from a novel titled “Shoot” by Douglas Fairbairn. The original novel, published in 1973 and later translated into French as “La Traque,” follows a group of friends who become the targets of hunters during a wilderness hunting trip.

“The Hunt” and “Shoot” share a similar premise, with both narratives focusing on the friends’ realization that they are being stalked even after returning to civilization. The controversy surrounding the series stemmed from Anger’s failure to disclose that it was based on Fairbairn’s work, leading to legal repercussions for Apple and the production company, Gaumont.

After swift action to address the plagiarism issue, “The Hunt” returned to Apple TV in February, with necessary rights secured from the original creators. While Anger retained his directing credit, the “Creator” acknowledgment was removed. The series is now back on the streaming platform, with new episodes released periodically.

Despite the setback, “The Hunt” is now back on track, offering viewers a thrilling experience with its unique storyline. The legal challenges have been overcome, allowing fans to enjoy the series as originally intended. Stay tuned for more gripping episodes and twists in this captivating thriller.
