The iPhone Revolution: How Apple Will Dominate 2025
The iPhone had a successful year in 2025, starting with the budget-friendly iPhone 16e and followed by significant updates in the September iPhone 17 lineup. The new iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max introduced new aluminum unibody designs, while the iPhone 17 featured a long-awaited 120 Hz ProMotion display. The iPhone Air also generated buzz despite modest sales.
Analysts are predicting a milestone year for Apple, with expectations of reclaiming the top spot as the leading global smartphone maker. A Counterpoint Research study indicates that Apple is poised to overtake Samsung for the first time in over a decade, with a projected market share of 19.4%.
The overall smartphone market is set to grow by 3.3% in 2025, with Apple expected to secure the No. 1 position with a 19.4% share.

The iPhone 17 models have been particularly successful in the US and China, leading to double-digit sales growth. Apple is also seeing increased iPhone purchases in emerging markets due to improved US-China trade relations and currency fluctuations.
Counterpoint predicts a 10% growth in iPhone shipments in 2025, outpacing Samsung’s 4.6% growth. The release of the iPhone 17 models coincides with a peak in the replacement cycle, driving demand among customers ready to upgrade.
Apple’s future looks promising, with plans for a foldable iPhone in 2026 and a more affordable iPhone 17e. The company is also gearing up for the 2027 iPhone lineup, expected to be revolutionary in celebration of the iPhone’s 20th anniversary.
With a strong product roadmap and growing customer base, Counterpoint anticipates Apple’s dominance in smartphone sales until at least 2029, barring any major market shifts.
