The Rivian R2 officially launches with a price under $50,000, 345 miles of range

Rivian has recently unveiled the pricing and trim details for their highly anticipated R2 compact SUV, making electric adventure more accessible than ever. This mid-size electric SUV combines Rivian’s signature luxurious yet practical design in a smaller package, built on a new platform to appeal to a wider audience. Deliveries for the new SUV are set to begin in Spring 2026.

The R2 comes in different trim levels, starting with the Performance trim, available only in the Launch Package configuration with a starting price of $57,990. Following that, the Premium trim will be released later in 2026, starting at $53,990. In the first half of 2027, the Standard trim will hit the market, starting at just $48,490 and offering an estimated range of up to 345 miles. Additionally, Rivian has hinted at an even more affordable base model set to launch in late 2027 with a starting price around $45,000.

Compared to its larger counterpart, the R1, the R2 is smaller in size, with a shortened wheelbase and weighing nearly 2,000 pounds less. The Performance trim boasts dual motors with 656 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. The Premium trim offers 450 horsepower, while the Standard trim provides 350 horsepower with a single motor. All trims come equipped with native NACS charge port integration, allowing Rivian drivers access to over 25,000 Tesla Superchargers across the US and other charging networks with standard adapters.

Inside the R2, passengers will find ample space with 90.1 cubic feet of total cabin space, featuring options like fold-flat seats, dual glove boxes, and a front trunk spacious enough for a carry-on suitcase. Both the Premium and Performance trims offer a unique rear drop glass window that can be lowered for an open-air driving experience or to accommodate tall cargo like skateboards and surfboards.

For off-road enthusiasts, the R2 offers up to 9.6 inches of ground clearance and an adaptive semi-active suspension system. The SUV will be available in three new exterior colors, including Catalina Cove (color-shifting), Esker Silver, and Half Moon Grey. The interior will feature minimalist design elements with new color schemes like Black Crater and Coastal Cloud, along with upcycled Birch wood finishes and organic fabrics.

With a starting price of $48,490, the R2 presents a compelling option for those looking to switch from a family minivan or passenger sedan. The SUV is set to debut at Rivian Roadhouse during SXSW in March 2026, and pre-orders are currently available on Rivian’s website, with a fully refundable deposit option.

In conclusion, the Rivian R2 is a game-changer in the electric SUV market, offering a blend of luxury, performance, and affordability. With its innovative design, range of trims, and off-road capabilities, the R2 is poised to make a significant impact in the automotive industry.
