Top-Selling Geely EX2 Heads Down Under to Conquer Australian Market
Geely’s highly anticipated electric vehicle, the Geely EX2, is set to hit the Australian market in the latter half of this year after achieving remarkable success in China. In 2025, the EX2 became China’s best-selling new vehicle with an impressive 465,775 deliveries in its debut year.
This compact electric hatch, similar in size to the BYD Dolphin and MG 4, will be launched in Australia between July and December 2026. It will be joining Geely’s existing electric EX5 and plug-in hybrid Starray EM-I mid-size SUVs, all of which are built on the Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA). The EX2 is just the first of six new Geely models scheduled for release in Australia by 2028.
In China, where it is known as the Xingyuan or Star Wish, the EX2 dominated the sales charts in a record-breaking year for the auto industry. China, the world’s largest auto market, saw a whopping 34.4 million new vehicles sold in 2025, more than double the sales in the US.
Designed to offer significant value to Australian consumers, the Geely EX2 is expected to be priced between $20,000 and $30,000. This positioning aims to undercut competitors like the BYD Dolphin while providing a compelling alternative to the MG 4.
The entry-level EX2 in China features a 58kW/310Nm electric powertrain paired with a 30.12kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a claimed range of 310km. Higher trim levels come with a larger 40.16kWh battery and a more powerful 85kW/150Nm electric motor, delivering a range of 410km.
Standard equipment on the EX2 includes 16-inch wheels, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, synthetic leather seat trim, and a 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen. Higher grades boast a larger 14.6-inch touchscreen, a high-definition reversing camera, and voice control. All versions of the EX2 are rear-wheel drive and feature multi-link rear suspension and a battery safety shield.
Geely’s success in Australia is evident, with the brand outselling competitors like Skoda, Renault, KGM, Omoda Jaecoo, and Cupra in 2025. With the launch of the EX5 and Starray EM-I, Geely continues to make waves in the Australian market.
