Investigation Underway for Windows 10 KB5068781 Update Installation Issue

Reports have surfaced regarding a bug affecting the installation of the Windows 10 KB5068781 extended security update for devices with corporate licensing. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is currently investigating.

The KB5068781 update, released on November 11 as part of Patch Tuesday, is the first extended security update for Windows 10. However, some business users have encountered difficulties with the installation process.

Users have noted that despite purchasing and applying the ESU license to their devices, the KB5068781 update fails to install, displaying error code 0x800f0922 after a restart.

Microsoft has specifically pointed out that the issue affects Windows subscription activation through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. Devices enrolled in Extended Security Updates (ESU) may encounter the error 0x800f0922 during the installation of the November 2025 security update.

The tech giant has assured users that they are actively investigating the issue but has not provided an estimated time for a resolution. Unfortunately, there are currently no workarounds available to address the installation errors.

In addition to installation issues, Windows administrators in corporate settings have also reported discrepancies in device eligibility for the KB5068781 ESU update, even for devices with proper licensing.

To assist organizations in enhancing their patch management procedures and mitigating potential issues, BleepingComputer will host a webinar on December 2 in collaboration with Action1 on modern patch management strategies.
