Masumi Network: How AI-blockchain fusion adds trust to burgeoning agent economy

AI Agents in 2026: The Future of Organizational Transformation

In the upcoming year 2026, forward-thinking organizations are expected to expand their teams of AI agents across various roles and functions. However, amidst this rapid adoption, there is a crucial aspect that cannot be overlooked.

According to one of IDC’s enterprise technology predictions for the next five years, a significant shift is anticipated. By 2030, up to 20% of global 1000 organizations may face legal challenges, hefty fines, and even CIO dismissals due to disruptive incidents caused by inadequate controls and governance of AI agents.

Addressing this challenge, Patrick Tobler, the founder and CEO of NMKR, a blockchain infrastructure platform provider, is spearheading a project that aims to merge agentic AI with decentralization.

The Masumi Network, a collaborative effort between NMKR and Serviceplan Group, was introduced in late 2024 as a framework-agnostic infrastructure. It enables developers to create autonomous agents that collaborate, monetize services, and uphold verifiable trust.

Tobler emphasizes that the core concept of Masumi revolves around the interaction of numerous AI agents from diverse companies in the future. The primary challenge lies in facilitating seamless interactions and financial transactions between agents from different entities.

Illustrating this concept with a travel scenario, imagine your hotel booking agent purchasing a plane ticket from your airline agent for an industry conference attendance. Such transactions necessitate implicit trust among the involved agents.

Unlike traditional centralized payment systems, Masumi operates as a decentralized network of agents. Each agent possesses a wallet and can transfer stablecoins securely to other agents, ensuring safe and trustless interactions.

Having immersed himself in the realm of cryptocurrency, Tobler recognized that the true potential of blockchain technology was being overlooked. He believes that the complexities associated with crypto usage are more suited for AI agents than humans, as agents seamlessly adapt to such technologies.

Attending the AI & Big Data Expo Global as part of Discover Cardano, Tobler looks forward to engaging with businesses that are exploring AI applications beyond basic functions like ChatGPT. He stresses the importance of understanding user needs and providing solutions tailored to their requirements.

Discover Cardano will showcase its innovations at the AI & Big Data Expo Global in London on February 4-5. To learn more about NMKR’s initiatives, watch the full video interview with Patrick Tobler below:
