Ubisoft shuts down ‘Rainbow Six Siege’ servers following hack

Ubisoft Confirms Compromise of Rainbow Six Siege Servers

Yesterday, Ubisoft announced that a security breach had occurred, leading to the compromise of Rainbow Six Siege servers. As a precautionary measure, the game’s servers and marketplace were temporarily shut down while the issue was being addressed. The hackers were able to gain control over various aspects of the game’s systems, such as the ability to ban and unban users, send custom messages, unlock in-game items, and even grant players a significant amount of R6 Credits and Renown.

Impact on Ubisoft’s In-Game Economy

It was revealed that Ubisoft sells R6 Credits in its store, with a bundle of 15,000 credits priced at $99.99. Therefore, the estimated cash value of 2 billion R6 Credits, which were illegitimately granted to players, amounts to approximately $13.33 million. This incident has raised concerns about the impact on the in-game economy and fairness among players.

Ubisoft’s Response and Future Actions

In response to the incident, Ubisoft assured players that they would not face any repercussions for using the illegitimately obtained credits. However, to prevent abuse, any transactions made after a specific timestamp will be rolled back. As of now, the game’s service has not been fully restored, and Ubisoft is working to resolve the issue promptly. Further updates will be provided once Ubisoft responds to inquiries regarding the situation.
