Don't worry about The Division, Ubisoft say as series executive producer jumps to Battlefield amid layoffs

Long-Time Massive Entertainment Key Figure Julian Gerighty Leaves for EA’s Battlefield

After 12 years at Massive Entertainment, Julian Gerighty has announced his departure to join EA and work on Battlefield. This move comes shortly after Ubisoft’s revelation of planned staff layoffs at Massive, following an unsuccessful voluntary redundancy process last year.

Despite Gerighty’s exit, Ubisoft assures fans that The Division series remains in good hands.

Ubisoft stated, “While we’ll miss him, his legacy will live on at Massive as we continue to deliver the world he helped create to our players for years to come. Rest assured, Agents, our dedicated teams are still here, committed to the future of The Division series with titles like The Division 2, The Division 2: Survivors, The Division Resurgence, and The Division 3.”

In his farewell tweet, Gerighty expressed, “It’s time for me to embark on a new adventure. The future of The Division is bright, and I’m excited for you to see what the teams have been working on.”

Ubisoft confirms that veteran Division developers Yannick Banchereau and Mathias Karlson continue as creative directors for The Division 2 and The Division 3 respectively. Additionally, The Division creative director Magnus Jansen now leads The Division 2’s extraction mode Survivors.

The announcement of The Division 3 was made in 2023, and Gerighty recently hinted at its impact during the New Game+ Showcase, comparing it to the success of the first game.

Recent speculation arose from a poster spotted at a Ubisoft esports event in Japan, hinting at a possible definitive edition of the original Clancy-filled game. However, as of now, no official announcement has been made.
