Ultimate Holiday Gift: Southwest Boarding Passes for Travelers on iOS 26
With the release of iOS 26, Apple has introduced a significant update to its Wallet app, specifically enhancing the boarding pass experience for travelers. Southwest Airlines has recently joined United and Delta in supporting these new boarding passes, just in time for the busy holiday travel season. This brings the total number of airlines adopting the feature to three out of the promised ten by Apple.
Southwest Airlines and iOS 26 Boarding Passes
Although Southwest Airlines has not officially announced boarding pass support, it has been discovered that the airline now supports iOS 26 boarding passes. This new feature is expected to streamline the travel experience for passengers of Southwest, United, and Delta during the holiday season.
If you have recently flown with Southwest Airlines and have not yet seen the feature, it may be rolling out gradually and has not reached your area yet.
How Do iOS 26 Boarding Passes Work?
Apple’s Wallet app serves as a versatile tool for storing various items such as car keys, credit cards, event tickets, and now boarding passes. This feature allows users to manage their holiday activities seamlessly, including driving, shopping, and air travel, all through their iPhone or Apple Watch.
Some key features of iOS 26 boarding passes include:
- Live Activities: Real-time flight status updates visible on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.
- Integrated Airport Maps: Quick access to terminal layouts for easy navigation.
- Find My Luggage Tracking: Ability to track bags and report missing luggage directly from the pass interface.
These features allow the Wallet app to automatically update flight details, display airport maps, track luggage with AirTag technology, and provide shortcuts for easy access to essential functions.
By saving boarding passes to the Wallet app, users can conveniently monitor their flight status and access important information with ease. The app also allows for sharing of live activities and dynamic updates on gate changes or departure times.
Who Else Is Expected to Offer Support for iOS 26 Boarding Passes?
While Southwest, United, and Delta have already implemented iOS 26 boarding pass support, Apple has announced that several other airlines will also be adopting the feature. These airlines include Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue, Jetstar, Lufthansa, Qantas, and Virgin Australia.
If you have experienced the new boarding pass feature with any of these airlines, share your feedback and insights in the comments section.
