I reviewed the Ultion Smart Lock back in 2020, which integrated the Danalock V3 into a handle and included an Ultion high-security cylinder.

I thought it was an excellent lock, and the £50 or so price premium over a Danalock V3 seemed well worth it.

Admittedly, the Danalock part of it was not the best smart lock I have reviewed; it had great potential, but the app was poor, and I reviewed many superior products in subsequent years.

Last year, I reviewed the Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen, which has been my favourite smart lock to date. It has worked much more reliably than any other smart lock I have tried, the app is decent enough, and the keypad and fingerprint scanner are substantially better than options from other brands.

I was therefore delighted when Ultion asked me to review their latest Ultion Nuki, which was launched at the end of last year.

Ultion Nuki vs Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen: What is it?

The Ultion Nuki follows the same concept as my original Ultion review, but instead of a Danalock, it integrates the Nuki Smart Lock Pro with the door handle and includes the latest 3-star PLUS Ultion lock.

Ultion has changed the design for the better. The previous model I reviewed had the lock integrated directly into the door handle. But with this model, the door handle is separate from the Nuki and is designed to make it easy to clip in.

This makes installation simpler and results in a much neater installation rather than the typical method of mounting a smart lock awkwardly onto the door hardware.

The Ultion 3-star PLUS cylinder holds the BSI Kitemark and has reportedly passed every relevant physical security standard. Ultion backs it with a £5,000 security guarantee, which is reassuring and something you simply do not get with budget cylinders.

Unboxing / Design

The packaging is functional rather than flashy. Inside the box, each component is well separated and protected. You get the Nuki Smart Lock Pro, the Ultion 3-star PLUS cylinder with keys, the door handle hardware, mounting accessories, and instruction materials including QR codes for online setup guides.

The Nuki Smart Lock Pro itself has a refined circular design with a brushed stainless steel finish. It comes with a choice of white or black accent rings. The build quality is noticeably better than most competing products, with the aluminium top section giving it a premium feel. You can tell Nuki has been refining this design over several generations.

The Ultion handle has a clean, straightforward look. It is not trying to be anything special, but it does the job well and looks far tidier than having a smart lock clamped onto a thin standard door handle. The integration between the handle and the Nuki is the real selling point here, and it shows in the finished installation.

One thing I do appreciate about the Nuki is the magnetic charging port on the exterior. You can top up the battery using a power bank without removing anything from the door. My one gripe with the charging setup is that it uses a proprietary magnetic cable rather than USB-C.
