Undoing the Oops: A Guide to Unsending Emails in iOS 26
Have you ever sent an email and immediately regretted it? Many of us have been in that situation more times than we’d like to admit. Maybe you made a typo in a professional message, mixing up “your” and “you’re.” Or perhaps you hastily sent a resignation threat to your boss, only to wish you could take it back seconds later.
Fortunately, in Apple’s Mail app, you can unsend an email if you act quickly. You have a brief window of time to retract the message and make any necessary edits or delete it entirely. Here’s how you can do it.
How to Unsend an Email From the Mail App on Your iPhone
Undoing the sending of an email is simpler than you might think. If you accidentally hit send before you’re ready, you have up to ten seconds to undo it by default.
How does it work? After sending the email, it will disappear from your screen momentarily, but a small blue link will appear at the top. Simply tap the Undo Send button, and the message will reappear, allowing you to make changes or delete it. If you haven’t updated to iOS 26 yet, the Undo Send button will appear at the bottom of your screen, but the process remains the same.
And that’s all there is to it! You can repeat this process as many times as needed, but remember to act quickly to prevent the message from being sent.
How to Change the Undo Send Delay Time
By default, the iPhone gives you a 10-second window to retract a message, but you can adjust this setting with just a few taps. Here’s how:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down to the bottom and tap on Apps (for iOS 18 or later).
- Locate the Mail app.
- Scroll down again and under Sending, select Undo Send Delay.
- Choose your desired time limit.
You have the option to extend the time up to 30 seconds or disable the feature altogether. While disabling it may seem unnecessary, it ensures that your emails are sent immediately, providing flexibility based on your preferences.
Avoid Sending the Wrong Message Again
Whether it’s a sudden change of heart or a mistaken recipient, the ability to unsend an email with a single tap can be a lifesaver. This simple trick can spare you from potential misunderstandings, especially when dealing with important work-related emails on your iPhone.
