Petersen Museum to showcase Classic Off-Road Racers at Upcoming Exhibit on Dec. 7

The Petersen Automotive Museum is gearing up to unveil its latest exhibit titled “Legend of the Dirt,” showcasing a collection of iconic off-road racing cars. Scheduled to open on December 7th, this exhibit promises to be a must-see for all automotive enthusiasts.

Among the featured vehicles are legendary classics such as the 1970 Bronco Baja winner, the renowned 1983 Lancia 037 from the World Rally Championship, the 1993 Suzuki Cultus Pikes Peak Special, the 1995 Herbst off-road racing truck known as “the Landshark,” and more. Visitors can also expect to see the Ford Bronco Ultra4 and a rally cross Volkswagen on display.

One standout from the exhibit is the 1983 Lancia Rally 037, the last rear-wheel-drive car to compete successfully against all-wheel-drive cars in the WRC Racing. This vehicle, driven by Markku Alén and Walter Röhrl, clinched the Constructor’s title in 1983, marking a significant victory for Lancia.

Another highlight is the 1993 Suzuki Cultus Pikes Peak Special, a subcompact hatchback that participated in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. This vehicle, powered by 100 horsepower, was a force to be reckoned with in the world of off-road racing.

The exhibit will also feature a selection of notable off-road racing trucks, including the 1995 Herbst, which made a lasting impact in Class 1 desert racing. Additionally, visitors can explore a range of other vehicles, such as the iconic 1970 Bronco driven by Parnelli Jones and the Ford Bronco Ultra4.

With a diverse range of vehicles on display, including off-road racing motorcycles and rock bouncers, the Petersen Automotive Museum’s exhibit promises to be a captivating experience for all attendees. The exhibit is set to run from December 7th to January 2027, offering a unique opportunity to witness these classic cars up close.
