Unleashing the Beast: Bentley Supersports Roars into Australia with a Harder, Lighter Continental
Bentley’s latest performance flagship, the stripped-down, two-seater Supersports, has been officially confirmed for the Australian market, with only a handful of units available due to its exclusivity. Each of these limited edition models is expected to come with a price tag of approximately $900,000 before additional on-road costs.
According to Bentley’s chief communications officer, Wayne Bruce, less than 10 out of the total 500 Supersports examples have been allocated to Australia, emphasizing the rarity of this high-performance vehicle. Despite its track-focused design, the Supersports is still practical enough to undertake long-distance journeys, as noted by Bruce’s comment on its driveability from Melbourne to Sydney.
The Supersports model, carrying on the legacy of the original 1925 Bentley Super Sports, will commence production in late 2026, with deliveries scheduled to begin in early 2027. Powered by a potent 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 490kW and 800Nm, the Supersports promises exhilarating performance and a thrilling driving experience. It features enhancements such as a bespoke Akrapovič exhaust system for increased power output and a more engaging engine note.
The vehicle’s acceleration capabilities are impressive, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of around 310km/h. The Supersports distinguishes itself from the regular Continental GT with rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, delivering sharper gear changes and improved stability.
In terms of weight reduction, the Supersports has shed nearly 500kg through various measures such as eliminating the plug-in hybrid system, resulting in improved dynamics and agility. Additional weight-saving features include a carbon-fiber roof, leather-wrapped carbon-fiber tub replacing rear seats, and a simplified sound system.
The Supersports also receives performance-focused upgrades like upgraded brakes with Carbon-Silicon Carbide discs and a sophisticated anti-roll control system for enhanced handling. Exterior enhancements include aerodynamic attachments, wider rear track, and distinctive bumpers, while the interior offers lighter sports seats and customizable leather upholstery options.
The development of the Supersports reflects Bentley’s commitment to performance excellence, driven by the vision of CEO Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser. The model represents a fusion of luxury and performance, showcasing Bentley’s ability to excel in both realms. The introduction of the Supersports has generated excitement and interest among customers, highlighting Bentley’s innovative approach to pushing boundaries.
In conclusion, the Bentley Supersports embodies the brand’s heritage of luxury and performance, delivering a unique blend of power, agility, and exclusivity. With its limited availability and high-performance credentials, the Supersports sets a new benchmark for Bentley’s performance-focused offerings.
