Unlocking the Potential: How Language AI is Revolutionizing Enterprise Infrastructure
In the modern enterprise landscape, artificial intelligence (AI) has become ubiquitous, revolutionizing various business functions. However, one area that often lags in adopting AI-driven solutions is the translation workflow. This insight forms the crux of DeepL’s 2026 Language AI report titled “Borderless Business: Transforming Translation in the Age of AI,” released on March 10.
The Discrepancy in Automation
DeepL’s Borderless Business report highlights that a significant portion of international businesses, approximately 35%, still rely on manual processes for translation. Additionally, 33% utilize traditional automation methods supplemented by human review. Surprisingly, only 17% have integrated advanced AI tools like large language models or agentic AI for multilingual operations.
These findings indicate that despite substantial investments in AI technologies across enterprises, a staggering 83% have not embraced modern language AI capabilities. The report, drawing insights from business leaders in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan, also reveals that enterprise content volume has surged by 50% since 2023, yet 68% of companies persist with outdated workflows.
Jarek Kutylowski, the CEO, and founder of DeepL, underscored this issue, stating, “AI pervades every aspect of business, yet operational efficiency lags behind. While many companies have implemented AI solutions, the lack of streamlined workflows limits productivity on a large scale, as these workflows are tailored to human involvement rather than automated systems.”
The Evolution of Language AI into Business Infrastructure
DeepL’s research reveals that language AI is now a critical component of enterprise operations, with global expansion driving 33% of investments, followed by sales and marketing (26%), customer support (23%), and legal and finance (22%). These functions are pivotal to business success, emphasizing the significance of language AI beyond mere translation tasks.
Further data from DeepL’s previous research in December 2025, surveying 5,000 senior business leaders across the mentioned markets, indicates a growing demand for real-time voice translation, with 54% of global executives deeming it essential by 2026, up from 32% currently. Notably, the UK and France lead in early adoption at 48% and 33%, respectively, while Japan lags at 11%, highlighting differing levels of readiness across global markets.
With a customer base exceeding 200,000 across 228 markets, DeepL is witnessing increasing adoption of AI agents by over 2,000 global customers, facilitating tasks such as report analysis, sales targeting, and legal document review.
The Significance of Data Sovereignty in AI
DeepL’s unique positioning in the AI landscape stems from its emphasis on data sovereignty, particularly crucial for enterprises in regulated sectors like finance, healthcare, legal, and government. As AI adoption accelerates in these industries, the choice of platforms often hinges on data control.
DeepL’s certifications including ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2, and GDPR compliance, along with offerings like Bring Your Own Key encryption for enterprise clients, provide unparalleled data security measures. This level of control allows organizations to revoke data access instantaneously, a feature not commonly found among major language model providers.
Sebastian Enderlein, DeepL’s CTO, envisions 2026 as a year of significant AI implementation rather than experimentation, stating, “Businesses are now poised to scale up AI initiatives substantially, with a strong focus on agentic AI for enhanced productivity.”
DeepL Agent and the Shift Towards Autonomous Workflow Execution
DeepL’s product roadmap aligns with the broader trend in enterprise AI, transitioning from single-function tools to autonomous workflow execution. DeepL Agent, launched widely in November 2025, is designed to navigate complex business systems, execute multi-step workflows, and seamlessly integrate with CRM, email, calendars, and project management tools without intricate integrations.
Emphasizing enterprise-grade security and inherent data sovereignty, DeepL Agent caters to organizations that require stringent data protection measures, distinguishing itself from competitors like OpenAI and Microsoft with its secure framework.
Stefan Miedzianowski, DeepL’s chief scientist, predicts a surge in enterprise adoption of AI agents in 2026, marking a shift from early adopters to widespread implementation, particularly focusing on enhanced productivity and operational efficiency.
As highlighted in the Borderless Business report, 71% of business leaders prioritize AI-driven workflow transformations in 2026, anticipating benefits in customer experience, workforce productivity, and market agility. The considerable gap between this aspiration and the mere 17% that have modernized their language operations underscores DeepL’s target market.
