Unlocking the Third Dimension: Transforming 2D Apps with the Galaxy XR Headset
New Feature on Android XR Allows for 3D Experiences from 2D Content
Google is introducing a new feature for Android XR that can transform 2D apps, websites, images, and videos into immersive “3D experiences.” This feature, known as “auto-spatialization,” was first revealed last year and is now being launched as an experimental feature for Samsung Galaxy XR headsets.
Auto-Spatialization in Action
A video released by Google showcases how auto-spatialization can enhance visual content and provide users with a more engaging viewing experience.
Key Details About Auto-Spatialization
Some important points to note about auto-spatialization include its support for content up to 1080p at 30fps, slightly increased battery consumption, and functionality limited to the focused app window. Despite these limitations, Galaxy XR users can benefit from a unique and immersive perspective on their content.
Other Updates for Android XR Users
In addition to auto-spatialization, Google is rolling out several other updates for Galaxy XR users. These include the ability to pin apps to walls, see real hands while interacting with virtual content, resume previous apps seamlessly, and access an expanded library of over 100 XR-compatible apps on Google Play.
