Square Enix has a pleasant surprise in store for enthusiasts of the Dragon Quest series with the unveiling of a demo for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. The demo is set to launch on Wednesday, January 7th.

The demo will be available on various platforms, including the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, as well as PC via Steam. Players will have the opportunity to test out the game before its full release on February 5th.

It is always exciting to see demos released for games, especially for remakes where fans eagerly anticipate the revival of a classic title.

Square Enix has employed various approaches in their remakes and remasters, and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined falls somewhere between the HD-2D remakes of the original Dragon Quest trilogy and the complete reimagining seen in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.

One notable aspect of the game is its unique art style, where Square Enix has created characters as real-life dolls and then scanned them into the game in 3D. Modernizations such as the removal of random battles, party automation, battle speed settings, and revisions to parts of the story have also been implemented.

A hands-on experience with the game last year left a positive impression, with the preview stating, “Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is shaping up to be another fantastic remake from Square Enix.” The game combines stunning art direction with quality-of-life improvements, making it a compelling way to revisit the classic adventure.
