Apple’s Upcoming iOS 26.2 Update: What to Expect

The much-anticipated iOS 26.2 update from Apple is set to be released in the coming weeks. Following closely on the heels of iOS 26.1, the first beta version of iOS 26.2 was quickly rolled out to developers, with a second beta already available. With a pending compliance deadline in Japan and the holiday season approaching, it is highly likely that iOS 26.2 will be officially launched by mid-December.

With iOS 26.2, Apple is introducing refinements to the innovative Liquid Glass interface, enhancing notifications for Reminders, making adjustments to Messages on CarPlay, and introducing a new Enhanced Safety Alerts feature that will provide warnings for specific events such as earthquakes.

One notable addition in iOS 26.2 is the enhancement of the LED Flash for Alerts accessibility feature. This feature, which has been in existence for over a decade, alerts users to notifications by blinking the iPhone’s LED camera flash. Originally designed for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, the feature is also useful for anyone in low-light environments who prefers visual notifications over audible alerts.

With the upcoming release of iOS 26.2, Apple is expanding the capabilities of the LED Flash for Alerts feature. Users will now have the option to have their iPhone’s screen flash in addition to, or instead of, the camera flash.

Enabling the screen flash feature on your iPhone after updating to iOS 26.2 is simple:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Navigate to Accessibility.
  3. Select Audio & Visual.
  4. Scroll down and tap Flash for Alerts, then toggle on the Flash for Alerts switch at the top of the screen.
  5. Choose your preferred alert style:

    1. LED Flash will make the camera flash blink for notifications.
    2. Screen will briefly flash the full screen upon receiving a notification.
    3. Both will flash both the camera and screen simultaneously.

This new feature will be particularly beneficial when your iPhone is placed face up on a surface, making it easier to notice the front display flash. It also offers an alternative to relying on an Apple Watch for haptic alerts. If you haven’t explored the LED Flash for Alerts feature before, now is a great time to give it a try. Share this feature with anyone who may find it useful!
