BMW’s Next-Generation X6: A Detailed Look at Seven Variants Including the All-Electric iX6

Buckle up BMW enthusiasts, as the next-generation X6 is gearing up to hit the roads with a bang! Recent insider information from the trusted BMW source, ynguldyn, hints at an exciting lineup of seven distinct variants for the upcoming X6, including the highly-anticipated all-electric iX6. While BMW has not yet officially confirmed these details, the buzz is already electrifying the automotive world.

Introducing the ICE Lineup

According to ynguldyn’s revelations, the new X6, codenamed G66, will boast four combustion engine variants: 30 xDrive, 40 xDrive, 40d xDrive, and M60 xDrive. The 30 xDrive variant may not be available in the US market, while the 40 xDrive is expected to make its way to American shores with BMW’s powerful B58 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine. The 40d xDrive is likely to cater to European markets with a diesel engine, possibly an updated B57 inline-six. At the top of the range sits the M60 xDrive, featuring BMW’s formidable 4.4-liter twin-turbo S68 V8 engine, delivering a staggering 523 hp. These engine options promise a thrilling driving experience, although BMW is yet to officially confirm the specifics.

Unveiling the iX6 Electric Trio

The electrifying lineup of the iX6 will include three electric variants: iX6 50 xDrive, iX6 60 xDrive, and iX6 M70 xDrive. These electric models are set to mirror the iX5 lineup, leveraging the same Spartanburg platform and cutting-edge Gen6 battery and motor technology. BMW has officially announced that the iX5, iX6, and iX7 will be equipped with Gen6 cylindrical cells, offering 20% higher energy density, a 30% boost in range and charging speed, and an 800-volt architecture for lightning-fast 400+ kW DC fast charging.

Rumors suggest that the G66 X6 will come with two battery sizes, with the smaller one for the 50x variant and the larger one for the rest of the models. Chinese-made models are expected to feature different battery configurations, adding to the diversity of the lineup.

Production of the iX6 is slated to commence at Spartanburg in Spring-Summer 2028, following the launch of the G65 X5 and iX5 this fall. These upcoming models will provide valuable insights into what to expect from the future X6 and X7, setting the stage for an exciting lineup of BMW’s next-gen SUVs.

Stay tuned for more updates on BMW’s innovative X6 lineup as the automotive world eagerly awaits the arrival of these dynamic vehicles.
