Unveiling the 2026 BYD Sealion 8: Pricing and Performance Revealed

BYD has introduced the Sealion 8, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV that offers a balance between affordability and features. Priced at $56,990 before on-road costs, the Sealion 8 competes with other hybrid SUVs in the market. It is slightly more expensive than the Chery Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid but cheaper than the Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid.

The Sealion 8 is BYD’s largest SUV in Australia, boasting three rows of seating. Orders are now open, with deliveries expected to start before the end of March.

In terms of pricing, the Sealion 8 lineup includes the Dynamic FWD, Dynamic AWD, and Premium AWD models. The Dynamic FWD starts at $56,990, while the Dynamic AWD and Premium AWD are priced at $63,990 and $70,990, respectively.

When it comes to drivetrains and efficiency, all Sealion 8 models feature double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension. The base Premium FWD model comes with variable frequency damping suspension, while the AWD versions upgrade to BYD’s DiSus-C intelligent damping suspension. Additionally, all Sealion 8 models come with a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, allowing users to power small electrical appliances.

The Sealion 8 is a large, seven-seat crossover SUV with dimensions of 5040mm in length, 1996mm in width, 1760mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2950mm. The cargo capacity ranges from 270L with the third row up to 1960L with the second and third rows folded.

Safety features in the Sealion 8 include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and various driver assistance technologies. Standard equipment across the lineup includes alloy wheels, LED headlights, a digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system, and wireless connectivity options.

The Sealion 8 is available in Aurora White as standard, with optional exterior paint finishes like Cosmos Black, Dark Aquamarine, and Ridge Grey for an additional cost. The interior of all models comes in black.
