In addition to the immersive new environment, the Roots biome offers 11 new badges to collect, as well as unique items like Shroomberries with unpredictable effects, various types of fungi, and hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. Players can also expect new items to be scattered across all biomes, such as the versatile rescue claw, the handy checkpoint flag, and the mysterious Book of Bones.
One of the standout features of the update is the revamped cooking system. According to a recent Steam post, players can now expect non-food items to have meaningful effects when cooked. For example, once poisonous berries can be safely consumed after being cooked, while poisonous mushrooms remain deadly. Additionally, items like bandages no longer provide extra stamina when cooked, adding a layer of strategy to the gameplay.
Beyond the gameplay enhancements, the update also includes several bug fixes to improve overall performance. In a quirky twist, players may also be amused to learn that Bing Bong now has visitation rights to see his kids on weekends, a surprising tidbit that adds a touch of humor to the update notes. With the Roots update now live, players can dive into the new content and embark on a thrilling adventure through the forest.
