Kia EV4 GT teased: Mild changes hide reportedly wilder drivetrain

The New Kia EV4 GT: A Sneak Peek

Recently, Kia has teased the upcoming Kia EV4 GT hot hatch, revealing subtle design changes that are reminiscent of the brand’s previous electric hatch, the EV6 GT. The modifications include a redesigned lower air intake with vertical slats and a diffuser-like element on the rear bumper. Additionally, the horizontal reversing light has been replaced by a new unit with five vertical light bars.

One noticeable change is the new 20-inch alloy wheels on the GT, which are larger than those on the GT-Line variants. These wheels are paired with 245/40 Michelin Pilot Sport rubber tires. Lime green accents, a signature of Kia’s electric GT models, can be seen on the brake calipers and the vehicle’s disguise.

While details about the drivetrain changes are still under wraps, it is expected that the GT will offer more power than the standard EV4 setup, which features a 150kW/283Nm electric motor driving the front wheels. The EV6 GT, for comparison, boasts a 430kW/740Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive system that can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds.

Reports suggest that the EV4 GT will have around 300kW and a 0-100km/h time of 5.0 seconds. The interior is said to feature sportier seats upholstered in faux suede and leather, with lime green accents on the seat belts, door trims, and screen graphics.

Expected to launch in early 2026, the EV4 GT is speculated to come with the EV4’s largest battery pack option, an 81.4kWh unit that supports DC fast charging up to 128kW. However, due to the GT’s more powerful drivetrain and high-performance tires, the driving range may fall short of the existing long-range variant’s 633km WLTP estimate.

While Australia is set to receive the South Korean-built EV4 sedan, the availability of the European-made EV4 GT in the country remains uncertain. With its unique features and enhanced performance, the EV4 GT is sure to attract electric vehicle enthusiasts worldwide.
