2028 BMW 5 SERIES RENDERING 1

BMW to Apply Neue Klasse Design Language to 40 Models by 2027

In the coming years, BMW plans to implement its new design language, Neue Klasse, across nearly all models. By 2027, around 40 vehicles, including the 5 Series, will bear the mark of Neue Klasse. The facelift for the 5 Series, BMW’s rival to the E-Class, is on the horizon. However, the planned Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) will be more subtle than originally intended, as seen in recent spy shots.

The 5 Series is taking an evolutionary approach to its redesign, as evidenced by the latest camouflaged Touring prototypes. Compared to earlier drastically redesigned versions, the new rendering reveals a softer mid-cycle update for BMW’s popular model.

Contrary to expectations, the 5 Series facelift may not feature the Neue Klasse grille seen on other upcoming models. The prototype indicates that the kidney grilles will remain separate from the headlights, a design choice that may divide opinions among BMW enthusiasts. The headlights, however, have undergone noticeable changes in shape and size, hinting at a modern interpretation of the classic E39 aesthetic.

The upcoming LCI will primarily focus on front-end changes, with potential updates to taillight graphics on the G61 Touring model. While the exterior changes may be less extensive than initially planned, the interior will see significant revisions to accommodate the new iDrive X system.

BMW’s decision to scale back the exterior facelift could be a cost-saving measure, considering the substantial investment required for interior upgrades. Despite the uncertainties raised by spy shots and renderings, the anticipation for the 2027 launch of the updated 5 Series continues to grow.
