Upgrade Your Email Identity: Say Goodbye to Your Embarrassing Gmail Username
Changing Your Gmail Username: A Step-By-Step Guide
If you find yourself burdened with a Gmail username from years past that you regret, there’s good news for you. Starting this Tuesday, Gmail users in the United States now have the ability to change the part of their email address that comes before “@gmail.com,” according to a report by Android Authority. Even after making this change, your old email address will still be linked to your account as an alternate address, ensuring that any messages sent to it will still reach your inbox. However, it’s important to choose your new username wisely, as you can only create a new email address once every 12 months. Additionally, any new username you select cannot be used for a separate Google Account in the future.
Who Can Take Advantage of This Feature?
The option to change your Gmail address was initially introduced last year, but it is now accessible to all Google Account users in the US. This feature is not just useful for replacing embarrassing email addresses; it can also come in handy when updating your email address following a name change. Keep in mind that after modifying your Gmail username, you may need to manually update your email address in the login information for any applications and websites where you use it to sign in.
How to Change Your Gmail Username
If you’re eager to try out this new feature, simply open the Gmail app and click on your profile icon. From there, select “Manage your Google Account” to access your account settings. Next, navigate to “Personal info” and choose the “Email” option from the menu. You should see an arrow button next to your email address; clicking on it will reveal the option to “Change Google Account email.” Do note that if you’ve recently changed your username, this option may not be available.
