Exciting News for Yakuza Fans!

Sega is gearing up for the release of Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, but before that, they are treating fans to upgraded versions of Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 on PS5, XSX|S, and PC on December 8th. What’s even better is that they are offering significant discounts and free upgrades for existing owners of the digital versions of the game.

However, there is a catch for those who own the games on disc or obtained them through PS Plus or Game Pass. Unfortunately, they are not eligible for the upgrade. Additionally, these new platform-specific releases do not carry over save data between versions of the game, and upgrade pricing is only available for purchases made before December 8th at 8:59AM PST.

Each game comes with its own set of upgrades and varying fees. All three games will receive resolution and performance improvements on the newer consoles, with Yakuza Kiwami 2 now running at 60fps. Sega has also added text language localizations for French, Italian, German, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian.

Yakuza 0 will be rebranded as Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut on PS5, XSX|S, and PC, featuring the Red Light Raid mode from the Switch 2 release and the Bubble theme song not included in the original western release. The upgrade price for this version is £11.99/€14.99, with the full game priced at £44.99/€49.99.

The upgrade for Yakuza Kiwami will cost £1.70/€1.99, while the full game price remains at £15.99/€19.99. This nominal fee is to offset the international licensing of the songs “Receive You [Reborn]” and “Bleed” that were not in the original western release.

Yakuza Kiwami 2, on the other hand, does not have any additional songs, so the upgrade is free for existing digital owners, with the full game price also staying at £15.99/€19.99. This version will see the biggest gameplay upgrade, as the original PS4 release was capped at 30fps, unlike the 60fps of the older game engine in Yakuza 0 and Kiwami.

Overall, Sega’s decision to offer these upgrades either for free or at low cost is a welcome gesture to fans. However, some may find it disappointing that the Red Light Raid mode in Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut comes with a premium price tag.
