Apple Introduces Age Verification Feature in the UK
Apple is rolling out a new age verification process in the UK with the latest iOS 26.4 beta. Users are now prompted to confirm they are over 18 after installing the update. Failure to verify their age will result in restrictions on downloading apps and making in-app purchases.
According to screenshots shared on Reddit, Apple may automatically verify a user’s age based on their payment method or account details. Alternatively, users may be asked to scan their credit cards or even their IDs to confirm their age.
The Verge reached out to Apple for further details on this new feature, but has not received an immediate response.
This development comes as Apple and other tech companies navigate age verification requirements worldwide. Apple recently announced plans to restrict users in Australia, Brazil, and Singapore from downloading 18+ rated apps unless they verify their adult status using approved methods. Additionally, Apple will now share age categories with developers’ apps to comply with local regulations in Utah and Louisiana.
