Apple Reduces App Store Developer Fees in China

In a strategic move, Apple has announced a decrease in its App Store developer fees in China, effective from March 15th. This decision sees a reduction in the commission on purchases from the standard 30 percent to 25 percent, following discussions with Chinese regulators. The aim is to prevent regulatory intervention, as reports emerged earlier in February suggesting that China was contemplating a formal investigation into Apple’s App Store fees and policies.

Changes to Commission Rates

The fee adjustments will not only impact the App Store on iOS but also on iPadOS. Moreover, the commission rate for small businesses and mini app developers will see a decrease from 15 percent to 12 percent. This move underscores Apple’s willingness to align with Chinese regulations, as the country contributes significantly to the tech giant’s revenue stream. Similar modifications have been made by Apple in response to regulatory demands in the EU.
