In a nutshell:

  • Tech Advisor’s report reveals that YouTube has rolled out new 30-second non-skippable ads tailored for TV viewers, extending beyond the existing skippable formats.

  • This shift aims to steer users towards paid subscriptions, with YouTube Premium priced at £12.99 per month or Premium Lite at £7.99 for reduced ad interruptions.

  • The fresh ad format seeks to enhance advertiser impact while prompting users to upgrade to subscriptions for an ad-free viewing experience.

YouTube has taken a new approach to its dual revenue model involving advertisers paying to display ads and users paying to avoid them.

The platform has recently introduced a new offering for marketers worldwide – the ability to purchase 30-second non-skippable ads specifically for the TV version of YouTube.

Previously, advertisers could choose from various skippable and non-skippable ad formats:

  • Skippable in-stream ads

  • Non-skippable in-stream ads

  • In-feed video ads

  • Bumper ads

  • Masthead ads

  • YouTube Shorts ads

The new format is designed to help advertisers effectively target their desired audience. However, what about users who are already inundated with ads?

If you prefer not to sit through ad breaks, you have the option to subscribe to YouTube Premium, which also includes access to YouTube Music. The current subscription fee is £12.99/$13.99 per month or £129.99/$139.99 per year.

Alternatively, you can choose the more affordable Premium Lite plan. This allows you to skip most ads (not all) but lacks certain features like access to YouTube Music. Premium Lite is priced at £7.99/$7.99 per month.
