Severance Season 2 Dylan, Helly, and Mark in office kitchen

Exciting news emerged last week for fans of the popular Apple TV series Silo, but followers of Severance may have to wait a bit longer for the resolution of the season 2 cliffhanger.

A recent report indicated that Apple had taken full control of the show, sparking hopes for an earlier release of the third season of Severance. However, with filming yet to commence, a premiere in 2026 seems unlikely.

Despite this, filming is slated to begin next month, as confirmed by star Adam Scott in a recent interview with Deadline.

“We’re starting very soon […] Very very soon. I’ll put two ‘verys’ on that.”

Scott remained tight-lipped about details of the new season, hinting at exciting new characters without giving away much.

“There will be exciting new characters and we’ll kind of get that when we get to that, but yeah, they’ll be exciting.”

While specific information is scarce, the anticipated timeline aligns with previous reports of script finalization and the start of filming in the spring of 2026, potentially running through December.

Considering post-production timelines, it’s likely that season 3 of Severance won’t premiere until mid-2027 at the earliest, bridging the gap between the first two seasons.

Recent reports suggest a new director for season 3, with Kogonada taking over from Ben Stiller. Known for his unique filmmaking style, the transition is seen as a natural fit for the series.

“With Stiller now returning to features, Kogonada stepping in actually makes a lot of sense. His minimalist, contemplative filmmaking style — built around precise visual composition and stillness — feels like a natural fit for the eerie, controlled world of ‘Severance’.”

Scott expressed excitement about Kogonada joining the team, praising his filmmaking prowess.

Apple’s commitment to at least four seasons of Severance hints at a longer narrative arc, with potential expansions into international adaptations and prequel series in the works.
