Google adds a camera to Snapseed on iOS

Google Updates Snapseed iPhone App with New Camera Features

Google has recently rolled out a significant update to its Snapseed photo editing app for iPhone users. The update includes a new in-app camera with manual controls and retro film emulation effects, marking the second major update to the app in less than a year. This move comes after years of neglect from Google, who had left Snapseed to stagnate.

The new Snapseed camera features an automatic mode as well as optional controls for ISO, shutter speed, focus, flash, and zoom. Users can also shoot using saved looks and edit stacks from the app, with the ability to adjust settings even after taking a photo. Additionally, the update introduces a range of preset film effects inspired by iconic films from Kodak, Fujifilm, and more, as well as various UI color themes to choose from.

9to5Google reported that the new camera feature quietly appeared in December 2025, initially accessible only through the lock widget, Camera Control, or Control Center, without any mention in the app’s update notes. However, the latest update now integrates the camera directly into the main app, accessible via an icon in the top-right corner, indicating its official launch.

In a surprising move, Google updated Snapseed to version 3.0 in June 2025, introducing a major redesign and new features. This update represents the app’s first significant overhaul since the addition of dark mode in 2021, following years of limited support since Google’s acquisition of Snapseed in 2012. While the update has yet to reach the Android version, developers have confirmed on Reddit that it is in progress, albeit still “a few months” away.
