Remedy Releases Final Update for FBC: Firebreak

Remedy has recently launched the Open House update for FBC: Firebreak, marking it as the game’s last content update. Despite this, the company has implemented changes to pricing and multiplayer features to ensure players can still enjoy cooperative gameplay.

The developers have assured players that FBC: Firebreak will remain accessible and playable for years to come, stating, “We have done engineering work to ensure we can sustain the upkeep of the relay servers when the player volume is lower.” To support this, they have introduced the Friends Pass, allowing players who own FBC: Firebreak to invite friends to join them by installing the free Friends Pass version of the game. Cross-play functionality is also available through the use of party codes.

In addition, Remedy has decided to permanently reduce the price of the game to $19.99 / €19.99 / £16.74 for the base game and $29.99 / €29.99 / £26.74 for the Deluxe Edition. Steam users can enjoy a 20% discount throughout the rest of March.

Game Director Mike Kayatta expressed his gratitude to the players, stating, “FBC: Firebreak was built by a team fueled by passion and experimentation. That spirit shaped the game, but the moments that brought it to life were the ones that players created together.”

Kayatta further emphasized the team’s commitment to maintaining the game’s community by keeping the relay servers active, lowering the price, and introducing the Friends Pass. He concluded by thanking players for their dedication and creativity.

The Open House update introduces five new arenas based on the original Control to the Endless Shift horde mode. These include the Cafeteria, Aircon Room, Ranger HQ, Turntable, and Ritual Lobby.

  • Cafeteria (Executive Sector)
  • Aircon Room (Maintenance Sector)
  • Ranger HQ (Maintenance Sector)
  • Turntable (Containment Sector)
  • Ritual Lobby (Research Sector)

Furthermore, the update includes gameplay tweaks and balancing adjustments. Harmful conditions now have extended durations and more prominent UI icons, all water sources provide a healing effect, and the perks system has been revamped to allow for nine level 3 perks simultaneously.

Weapon balancing has been improved for consistent performance across difficulty levels, revive speed has been reduced to 3 seconds, crawling speed has been increased, and the closest Neutraliser is always displayed in the HUD.

Reflecting on the game’s initial launch, the author shared mixed feelings, stating, “I generally enjoyed FBC Firebreak FBC at launch, but felt it still had a ways to go.” They highlighted the game’s unique features but also noted areas for improvement, suggesting that Remedy may need to explore new directions to enhance the gaming experience.

Although FBC: Firebreak will not reach its full potential, this decision allows Remedy to refocus on their core strength of developing single-player supernatural adventures. Fans can anticipate the upcoming release of Control: Resonant (AKA Control 2) later this year.
