The Cove Team Joins Microsoft: A Look at the Acquisition

Microsoft made waves in the tech world recently with the acquisition of Cove, a Silicon Valley startup known for its innovative approach to collaboration with AI agents. Cove co-founder and CEO Stephen Chau announced the news on Tuesday, revealing that the entire Cove team will be joining Microsoft.

While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, it was confirmed that Cove will be shutting down its product on April 1. Chau expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “We’re thrilled to continue this work at Microsoft, where we’ll have the opportunity to pursue an even bigger vision.”

Founded in 2023, Cove quickly gained recognition in the industry, raising a $6 million seed round led by Sequoia Capital. The startup’s software transformed traditional chats with AI agents into a visual workspace, allowing users to create custom AI apps. Despite its small team of less than 10 employees, Cove’s impact was significant.

Prior to launching Cove, Chau, along with co-founders Mike Chu and Andy Szybalski, had notable experience at companies like Uber Eats and Google Maps. Their expertise in product development and AI technology made Cove a valuable asset in the industry.

Microsoft’s decision to acquire Cove aligns with its goal of expanding the reach of its Copilot assistant. The tech giant recently introduced Copilot Cowork, a new AI assistant designed to streamline tasks and enhance productivity across Microsoft 365 apps.

In a separate announcement, Microsoft revealed a reorganization within its Copilot group, consolidating consumer and commercial AI efforts under former Snap executive Jacob Andreou. This move reflects Microsoft’s commitment to advancing AI technology and improving user experiences.
