New 2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV Offers Vehicle-to-Home Power in Japan

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV has recently been introduced in Japan, showcasing a unique feature that sets it apart from other vehicles in its class. This RAV4 comes equipped with a power supply system specifically designed to provide electricity to homes, particularly during emergencies that require access to electricity.

Referred to as the “HV power supply mode,” this innovative feature will be available on RAV4 PHEV models in Japan. Similar technologies can be found in Ford’s Pro Power Onboard and GM’s Vehicle to Home (V2H) systems. When activated, the HV power supply mode in the new RAV4 HV can supply electricity to homes in the event of power outages.

According to the official press release, the HV power supply mode allows users to power their homes. By consistently using 400 watts, the power flow can last for up to 6.5 days. Switching to “power supply time priority mode” extends this duration by an additional half day, providing a total of 7 days of continuous power supply.

Toyota has confirmed that the RAV4 PHEV will feature a 100-volt power supply outlet capable of delivering a total output of up to 1500 watts (1.5 kW) to homes or outdoor appliances.

While the HV power supply mode will only be available on the Japanese RAV4, it is set to be included in the new all-electric 2027 Highlander for the US market. However, this feature will not be present in the 2026 RAV4 PHEV, as indicated in a conversation with a representative from Road & Track.
