Unveiling the Future: Electric BMW X4 and X4 M

  • The highly anticipated electric BMW X4 is set to debut soon, with spy shots already circulating. Enthusiasts can also look forward to an M version hitting the market in the near future.
  • The standard BMW iX4 is scheduled to be revealed later this year, paving the way for the performance-oriented X4 M in 2027.
  • Production of the electric BMW X4 M is expected to commence in November 2027, alongside the introduction of an electric X3 M.

After the successful production of the second-generation X4, BMW is gearing up for the launch of its third generation, which is slated to arrive later this year. This time, the iconic crossover will undergo a major transformation by going all-electric, marking a significant shift away from traditional combustion engines.

The upcoming electric X4, named the iX4, has already been spotted in spy shots and is anticipated to make its official debut in the latter half of 2026. Production of the iX4, codenamed “NA7,” is expected to kick off at BMW’s Debrecen plant in November, with the X4 M following suit in 2027.

A recent report from a reputable BMW source on the Bimmer Post forums has revealed that the X4 M and X3 M are set to enter production simultaneously in November 2027. Despite initial speculations, both models will not carry the “i” branding, a departure from the naming convention for BMW’s electric vehicles. The electric M3, for instance, will simply be known as the M3, maintaining its prestigious legacy in the lineup.

Internally referred to as the ZA7, the X4 M is part of BMW’s strategic plan to expand its electric M series. The X3 M, designated as the ZA5, will also join the lineup, offering high-performance electric SUV options for discerning customers.

Anticipated to boast a quad-motor setup with standard xDrive, the upcoming M3, X3 M, and X4 M models are expected to deliver more than 800 hp. The M3, with the internal code ZA0, is poised to lead the pack with production scheduled to begin in March 2027 at the Munich plant in Germany.

Even the M Performance variants are projected to exceed 600 hp, catering to performance enthusiasts seeking exhilarating driving experiences. The iX3 M60, equipped with a dual-motor configuration, is anticipated to kick off the lineup with impressive power output.

BMW’s innovative approach extends to a potential i3 Touring model, internally labeled as the ZA1, although official confirmation is pending. The company’s commitment to electrification is evident in its future plans, with a focus on expanding the electric vehicle portfolio with cutting-edge technologies and performance capabilities.
