The Smart Strategy: Road to Vostok’s Dev Takes a Breather to Prepare for Future Updates
The Success of Finnish Survival Shooter Road to Vostok
Road to Vostok, a Finnish survival shooter developed by Antti Leinonen, has received positive feedback since its recent release from early access. Leinonen is now focusing on future plans for the game after dedicating intense effort to its initial build. However, he is cautious about rushing into fixes or new features, opting to take time to fully recover before making any changes.
In a Steam post, Leinonen expressed his temptation to start tweaking the game immediately but shared his past experience of unintentionally creating more issues when working under pressure. He emphasized the importance of mental clarity in making adjustments and highlighted the need to avoid accidental mistakes that could impact the game’s performance. Therefore, he has decided to prioritize personal recovery before diving back into code changes.
Leinonen estimates that it will take about a week for him to be ready to address any hotfixes, as he tackles a backlog of over 11,000 emails. Once the initial fixes are implemented, he plans to take a well-deserved break from development, marking his first extended break in four years. The upcoming second build of Road to Vostok, named Nomads, is set for release between July and September, promising significant additions such as a new map, shelter, and a friendly faction. Additionally, a “Driver (Trader)” character will be introduced, along with an AI overhaul to enhance NPC interactions and behaviors.
Road to Vostok’s website outlines the timeline for the Nomads update, which includes exciting features that will enhance the gameplay experience for players. With a focus on continuous improvement and player satisfaction, Leinonen’s dedication to the game’s development is evident in his strategic approach to updates and enhancements.
