The Apple Crime Log is back, highlighting the latest incidents of Apple-related theft and scams. From iPhone thefts in Alabama to a TikTok user’s MacBook recovery, here’s a roundup of recent events.
Two individuals have been arrested in Alabama for a string of iPhone thefts. The Mobile Police Department responded to a theft call at the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, where 32 iPhone 16 devices were reported stolen. Thanks to the tracking technology, two suspects were apprehended – Lakisha Hallum-Rogers, 45, and 19-year-old Jermani Rogers.
In Cleveland, Ohio, a TikTok user named Matt Swartzen shared his experience of recovering his stolen MacBook and AirPods using Apple’s Find My app. After tracking the devices to a mobile repair shop, he was able to retrieve them along with other stolen items that were discarded nearby.
In Cape Coral, Florida, police recovered a stolen vehicle with the help of an AirTag attached to the keychain. The suspect, Daniel Patrick Sullivan, was arrested after security videos captured him parking the stolen Jeep and entering his home. The AirTag and car keys were found concealed in a garage, leading to Sullivan’s arrest on multiple charges.
In the UK, a thief named Antony Allen broke into a home in Ashford, Kent, stealing various items including a pair of AirPods. Using the tracking signal from the AirPods, officers located Allen hiding in a nearby address. He confessed to the crime and was sentenced to prison.
Lastly, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a man was apprehended for snatching a gold chain during a street carnival. He was identified as a member of the “Tropa do iPhone 17 Pro Max” gang, known for stealing mobile devices and valuables in crowded areas. The thief was charged with robbery and resisting arrest.
From iPhone thefts to successful recoveries, these incidents showcase the importance of tracking technology in combating Apple-related crimes. Stay vigilant and protect your Apple devices from theft and misuse.
