Toyota Introduces Type 26 GR Yaris with Motorsports-Inspired Upgrades

Toyota has recently unveiled the Type 26 GR Yaris in Japan, featuring a range of motorsports-inspired enhancements. The starting price for this impressive vehicle is approximately 3.6 million yen, equivalent to around $22,600.

With five different trims available, the top-of-the-line variant, known as the RZ “High Performance” + Aero performance package, comes equipped with all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This premium model retails for 5.9 million yen, or about $37,000.

The top trim level boasts Bridgestone Potenza Race tires, specially designed with a new tread pattern, internal structure, and compound to enhance control both on and off the track.

One of the standout features of the Type 26 GR Yaris is its new GR steering wheel, which is smaller than the standard Yaris wheel and offers improved responsiveness. Additionally, the steering wheel comes with backlit switches for added convenience.

Toyota has refined the electric power steering system in the GR Yaris, optimizing torsion-bar rigidity within the torque sensor and adjusting control software to expand the steering torque detection range. These enhancements ensure optimal steering assistance even during high-load cornering.

Previously unavailable features like seat heaters and a steering wheel heater are now accessible when selecting a vertical parking brake in combination with either the “Navigation Package” or “Comfort Package”. This update offers enhanced comfort and convenience for drivers.

The Type 26 GR Yaris is powered by a potent 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, delivering an impressive 304 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system, this vehicle offers exceptional performance and driving dynamics.
