2026 BYD Seal 6 price and specs

BYD is expanding its range in Australia with the introduction of the Seal 6, a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) passenger car. Available as either a sedan or wagon (Touring), the Seal 6 is now on sale with a starting price of $34,990 for the sedan and $39,990 for the wagon, before on-road costs. This makes it the most affordable PHEV sedan and wagon in Australia.

The Seal 6 sedan is $5000 cheaper than the Toyota Camry, which is a similarly sized car with a conventional hybrid powertrain. It narrowly misses out on being the cheapest PHEV in Australia, with the Sealion 5 Essential medium SUV undercutting it by just $1000.

The Seal 6 Touring is not only the most affordable PHEV wagon in Australia but also the cheapest wagon overall. While there is a $5000 price difference between the sedan and wagon variants, the Touring offers more power, equipment, and a greater electric range.

In terms of pricing, the Seal 6 Sedan Essential starts at $34,990, while the Seal 6 Touring Premium is priced at $39,990.

The Seal 6 features MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension. It also comes with Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality as standard, allowing you to power small appliances.

The Seal 6 is powered by a 1.5L 4cylinder engine and electric motor, with the Touring variant offering higher outputs than the sedan. The battery capacity also differs between the two models, with the Touring having a larger battery for increased electric range.

BYD offers a six-year, 150,000km warranty on their vehicles, including an eight-year, 160,000km warranty on the batteries. The company has yet to release details of the Seal 6’s service schedule.

In terms of safety, the Seal 6 has not been assessed by ANCAP yet. Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a range of airbags. The Touring variant adds additional safety features such as a surround-view camera and front parking sensors.

The Seal 6 Sedan Essential comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, a digital instrument cluster, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Touring Premium adds features such as a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, and multi-color ambient lighting.

The Seal 6 is available in Arctic White as standard, with optional colors including Atlantis Grey, Cosmos Black, and Sage Green for an additional $600. Sage Green is exclusive to the Touring variant.

Overall, the BYD Seal 6 offers an affordable and efficient PHEV option in Australia, with the sedan and wagon variants catering to different needs and preferences.
