YouTube Premium: 2026 Subscription Updates & Pricing Changes
When it comes to streaming service price hikes, Netflix is often the first name that comes to mind. However, it’s not the only one making changes. Other major players like Disney+ and HBO Max are also following an annual cycle of increases. Surprisingly, YouTube is now joining the trend.
As of today, new subscribers to YouTube Premium will see a $2 increase, bringing the monthly cost to $15.99. This marks a change from the previous standard of $13.99 over the past three years. Existing subscribers will experience the new pricing during their June billing cycle.
These adjustments seem to impact only US YouTube Premium subscribers. They have started receiving emails this week, informing them of the upcoming billing date for the new price, which is already reflected on the YouTube Premium sign-up page.
To continue providing excellent service and features, we are raising the price to $15.99/month. While these decisions are not taken lightly, this update will enable us to enhance Premium and support the creators and artists you enjoy on YouTube.
Not only is YouTube Premium seeing a price increase, but the company’s other plans are also getting a boost ranging from $1 to $4 across the board. Here’s a breakdown of the changes:
| Plan | Old Price (2023) | New Price (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | $13.99 | $15.99 |
| Family | $22.99 | $26.99 |
| Student | $7.99 | $8.99 |
| Lite | $7.99 | $8.99 |
| Music | $10.99 | $11.99 |
YouTube has been relatively consistent with its pricing compared to other streaming services. This increase is only the second since the service’s launch in 2018. The last price adjustment occurred in July 2023, with a $2 monthly increase from the initial price of $11.99 to $13.99. It’s worth noting that YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music, unlike the previous ad-free YouTube Red service.
While YouTube Music Premium is available as a standalone option, it’s priced just $2 lower than YouTube Premium. For frequent YouTube viewers, the extra cost for YouTube Premium is justified due to its ad-free experience and additional features.
Introduced in the US last year, YouTube Premium Lite offers an affordable alternative at $8.99 per month. While it doesn’t provide offline downloads, background play, or access to YouTube Music, it still offers an ad-free experience for most content.
If the new price hikes seem steep, subscribers have the option to cancel or pause their YouTube Premium membership for up to six months to evaluate their choices.
