Apple Confirms Exclusive Texture and Grain Controls for Newest iPhone Cameras

Apple has recently introduced new texture and grain controls for enhancing photos, but there seems to be some confusion regarding their availability on older iPhone models. Initially, it was believed that these features would be accessible on devices like the iPhone 16 and iPhone Air that support the latest Photographic Styles. However, it has become apparent that older phones will have limited access to these new tools.

Contrary to what was stated in a misleading press release from Apple, older iPhone models will not have full access to the new texture and grain controls. These adjustments, such as smoothing skin textures and adding film grain, will only be available when editing photos taken with the latest iPhone models. Apple has clarified that these controls will specifically work for photos captured on iPhone 18 Pro models and cameras like Ultra Wide, Main, and Center Stage on iPhone Duo.

The original press release, issued on September 11th before the release of the new iPhone and Apple Watch models, can still be found on various websites. It mentions that the new texture and grain controls in Photographic Styles will be available on iOS 27 for a range of iPhone models including iPhone 16, iPhone 17, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone Duo.

In an attempt to seek clarification from Apple, The Verge reached out for information on how these features are intended to function on older iPhone models. However, as of now, there has been no response from the company.
