BMW Unveils Latest 3 Series Touring: A Tribute to the Timeless Wagon
Exploring the Future of BMW Station Wagons
- The upcoming fully electric BMW i3 Touring, codenamed NA1, is set to be manufactured in Munich.
- Reports suggest that BMW is also developing a G51 3 Series Touring with traditional combustion engines.
- Anticipated to debut possibly as early as next year, the next 3 Series wagon is generating excitement among automotive enthusiasts.
While SUVs dominate the automotive landscape, BMW is staying true to its station wagon heritage. Recently, Munich teased the next Touring model through images that made a brief appearance during former CEO Oliver Zipse’s final speech.
During the 106th Annual General Meeting, Zipse, a long-time BMW veteran, emphasized the brand’s commitment to the 3 Series Touring. Despite the SUV trend, BMW’s market analysis indicates significant demand for another iteration of the iconic long-roof 3 Series.
“The 3 Series is more than just a sedan – and it will remain that way in the future. The 3 Series Touring is very popular with families and business customers, which is why we have already confirmed this model.”
The Future of BMW Touring Models: i3 and Gas-Powered 3 Series
While details on powertrains remain undisclosed, BMW has confirmed the production of a fully electric i3 Touring, internally labeled as “NA1.” Production will take place in Munich alongside the i3 sedan (“NA0”), with the wagon expected to hit the market in 2027 or 2028.
Not stopping at electric models, sources hint at the development of a “G51” 3 Series Touring with gasoline and diesel engine options. BMW’s product chief’s earlier statements suggest a commitment to both combustion engines and electric powertrains.
Considering the production shift of conventional 3 Series models to Dingolfing, the upcoming 3 Series Touring, whether electric or traditional, is poised for success.
Anticipated Releases: New 3 Series Sedan and Touring Models
While the official unveiling of the “G50” is pending, production is expected to commence in late 2026 in Dingolfing. Following BMW’s product rollout strategy, the “G51” Touring variant is likely to follow in approximately a year.
Enthusiasts eagerly await the potential of M Performance and M versions for the new 3 Series Touring lineup, showcasing advanced drivetrain options. BMW’s dedication to innovation suggests exciting possibilities for sporty derivatives.
