Google Pixel Watch 5 Focus metrics

Google has announced the introduction of new health monitoring features that will be available to users starting today. The new metrics will include blood pressure and insulin trends, with the first trend reports expected to be available in early October once sufficient data has been collected and analyzed.

According to Google, six out of 10 people do not notice a rise in blood pressure, which can have negative effects on heart and kidney health. While the Pixel Watch does not have the capability to measure blood pressure directly like the Huawei Watch D3, it uses pulse and motion patterns to estimate it.

By utilizing these patterns, users can identify persistent higher cardiovascular trends early on, enabling them to make necessary lifestyle changes, verify patterns with a home blood pressure monitor, or seek advice from a healthcare professional.

While the new feature does not require a blood sample, it does not have the capability to measure blood sugar levels, which could be disappointing for diabetics. Instead, it analyzes multi-week physiological data to monitor changes in metabolic health and how effectively the body absorbs energy from food.

Detecting subtle shifts in metabolic health early on can be crucial in preventing negative impacts on overall health, allowing individuals to take proactive measures to avoid worsening conditions.

Other Pixel Watches and Fitbit Air Included

Surprisingly, Google has not limited these new Health Guardian features to just the Pixel Watch 5, but has also made them available on other Pixel Watches and Fitbit Air models.
